I play unrated and I have been penalized several times while connecting to the start of a match. I might miss one round, I might miss two. But I can still preform with low to average ping and just recently on my last game I was best on my team (18/12) and yet I get penalized for an HOUR for missing TWO rounds at the beginning of the game in what is supposed to be a "chill" and "low stakes" gamemode.
It doesn't seem fair that I get penalized for an hour for missing just two rounds in the beginning of an unrated match and still preform best on my team.
I implore someone to look into how penalties are being given out as I have missed the start of a round for going "AFK" when I (for some reason) can't load into the match and have no way of knowing whether I will load in or will get an hour long penalty the next time I go to queue.

My solution to this would be by setting a certain number of minutes someone gets penalized for each round. There are 24 rounds (not counting ties) which makes an even 2.5 minutes for each round if you are looking to give out 60min penalties. So if I missed two rounds, I would rack up a nice 5min penalty the next time I go to queue in unrated. Which is fine as those two rounds count.
And for players who fully disconnect, still give the actual legit leavers the 60min penalty, and if they come back before the match ends, give them the 2.5min time penalty for each round they missed. So if someone DCs or rage quits on match 5, then decides to come back on match 23, they would rack up a 45min penalty timer. And if they don't come back before the match ends, hit them with the full 60min timer.

And I am only talking about UNRATED. For competitive, I would say do the same thing times two so instead of 2.5 it is instantly a 5min penalty for each round someone misses up to 60min. I don't care right now about competitive because it is the ranked gamemode and penaltys should be given out accordingly for people who don't have good enough internet or rage quit as it effect's everyone's MMR rating.

And for the love of all things Valorant, do not give out penaltys for Spike Rush! I got a 60min penalty for missing the first two games in a 5min 35second spike rush. Which is absurd as people just move on to the next spike rush as they only take a max of 8min to complete. And thats if it is a close game! So I do NOT believe in giving out penalty's for spike rush unless someone rage quits and doesn't return before the match ends. Those matches are just too quick.

All in all, 2.5min penalty for every round missed in unrated, 5min for competitive, and if said DC/RQ doesn't come back, hit them with the 60min penalty timer. But I am done being penalized for something that I cannot realistically fix in my area.
And with the current state of events, I might not be able to go back to college which means I will rack up even more 60min penalties for not connecting fast enough to the start of games.

Riot needs to address this and come up with a system that gives out penalties fairly and justly.

I agree, for unrated there should be more of a tolerant state towards players with bad connection.
Especially as there should be technical means to find out if players actually just have a bad connection.

yeah plus unrated should be the place people with bad internet can freely play without worrying about being banned. if youre like me, sometimes your internet acts up for a while so you play unrated to not mess up anyones rank. yet if you lag out for a sec you get banned like wtf

As I'm writing this I'm sitting through a loading screen. I've missed two rounds and I've only had 100ping (aka: decent internet today). Guess I'm getting queue banned for an hour.

I'm ok with penalties for competitive. But I agree, unrated should be a safe environment for people with less than average internet.

So the ban times for Valorant are ridiculous. I am 15 and i had to leave for dinner so i had to leave character select and i got banned for two hours. I have had people leave during character select and we have gotten a person within seconds. I just think they need to change these first or second offenses to like ten or twenty minutes.

Merged 1 post from the ban times are insane.

I think for unrated just have a set number of minutes for every round and penalize the person for missing X number of rounds.

For competitive, just keep the long penalty timers as MMR is on the line. Just make sure people can load into your matches Riot.

And don't penalize people for unrated unless they legit hit the disconnect button mid match. Spikes are so quick that you shouldn't be penalized.

this is so true. One time my dad told me to go wash the dishes and I was gone for like 2 rounds. I got a 3 hour ban even though I am not a repeat offender. Do penalties go higher every time you go AFK?

btw this was FREACKING SPIKE RUSH like why does valorant care so much? it is only a game, plus spike rush is like 10 minutes max. Losing unrated or spike rush doesnt matter

people get penlty of 10mins for not selecting agents in competetive but when i decided to not select any agent they give me a 2hour ban straight this is not fair this is straight up partiality

[unknown] well ya it's true that everytime you go afk penalty will increase

Can we report player that leave match ? Or gabung bad word ?

I'm young and I had to go to bed last night, I had to get up early the next morning so I closed valorant (After trying to forfeit twice) and went to bed. I woke up today with a 6 day ban. I've had to leave matches before because of similar reasons, but they need to lower the time. I just wanted to play a couple rounds before I leave but now I can't play for 6 days. I could get a larger ban for this and it makes me not want to play. I am a child and things are going to happen. I understand if it's in a comp game, but I just started a few weeks ago. This needs to be fixed.

Murphy if you are that young you shouldn’t play shooter games at all

im not even joking when i say this and im not trying to make it sound like you should be on my side but, i was playing a game of unranked, i live in the country somewhat and my internet has been getting bad over the weeks, so i'm always getting a "high average ping" and a "network error" all the time. i finish a FULL GAME, no afk, no leaving and when im done with it and get to the play screen, i get a 35 hour penalty?! for playing the full game?! and with everyoen else in the comments i think unrated shouldnt care as much towards penalty.

I'm not sure if people check this but for some reason, I'll get afk penalty's when I log in and it'll happen a lot even though I don't leave the matches previous to me getting off, sometimes I do but I just deal with the penalty, their not even light penalty's I have to wait an hour and a half just to play a match and it's been getting on my nerve's and is such a mood killer.

Bro the fact is you can report whoever you want who is actually ruining games and Riot wont give a shit, but if you voice your opinion you get punished immediatly

Yeah, when my internet goes out I have to shut down my pc. After this and I relog into valorant I get this lovely screen saying that I have been afk and a penalty was administered, I am super afraid that I might get banned for literally having my internet going out. This leads me to believe that valorant doesn't have some sort of system to ping the player and see if they even have connection in the first place. Maybe if you could make the player ping the server every 5 seconds and if the server notices the player hasn't pinged in over 15 seconds then it would kick them for timing out. That would really help in situations where your internet just randomly goes out when you don't know when it will because it will rarely happen. I really hope they follow my advice because it can really help loads of players out there with connections like this and getting a ban for being afk when it was their internet dying

Yea, its like if you play competitive soccer, and you break your leg but your still forced into the soccer, because if you don't you can't play for a month. You either suffer, or you suffer.
