So it's after work, I'm tired and a bit cranky, so I thought I'd relax with a casual non-comp game of Valorant. I get in and watch this player see an enemy go behind a corner and hide there. I'm like ok they got this. So my teammate watches the wall where the person is as they try to make a move on them. I'm like... why the wall, why arn't you watching the corner where they might come out of. Normally you'd watch the corner and swing your aim around the corner as you walk out right? Maybe I'm wrong. but the enemy moves out of the corner and my teammate has to swing their aim from the wall across the corner to where the enemy now is, only to die before they even get a shot off.
Now the story actually begins....
So I decide to comment on this by saying -Sage, maybe looking at that wall where the enemy is isn't the best idea. ;3 - I thought I'd help out a bit by pointing out that there was a better place to look. But before I could even type that into chat. My teammate starts to become snarky back and says next round. -Why did you push alone?- And then continued to make another couple comments about my playstyle. I decide that they must have taken my criticism badly. So I backpedal and try to say that I was only trying to help. So I do the worst thing possible and begin to be a bit toxic back. I go and point out how what they did in the most recent round was terrible, that kind of thing. And then apparently they have two friends on their team and they both begin to lay into me, being super toxic, not just toxic, but insulting life choices (of which they know me not at all) Insult my score (which was decent 3/6/2 at the time considering we were losing fairly badly round wise.). Two of them were leading the team with kills, the other was bottom frag.
I have had enough, so I tell them off for being just as if not more toxic than me. And they go full on holier than thou on me. Telling me that after insulting them and being toxic right away by -telling the sage how to play- I had no right to call them out on their toxic behavior. Not only that, but they were in the right by being hostile and toxic, in order to clean up the Valorant community of toxic players by harassing them back. not their words, but you get the point. At this point its only the sage talking. I try to point out, that being ten times more hostile, doesn't help the community at all. This only has the sage gain momentum and begin full on showing me how I am a terrible person for making one comment about their playstyle. By this time the Sage's two friends were out of the conversation and kept quiet. I feel like they realized how toxic their friend was being and decided to keep out of it. At this point I had enough, though I said so in chat. Which only had them continue being toxic by saying things like I've had enough too, I hope you stop being toxic, thing of that nature. So I muted them. Didn't want to deal with it anymore and didn't respond. Amazing how much better I felt when I just stopped caring.
Thats my rant. I try to keep my toxic behavior to a minimum, sometimes it slips out, but when I see stuff like this. I really wonder why people act like this. It makes me realize that I need to just choke on my words, and let people do dumb stuff and realize it's just a game, and its meant to be fun.
Thanks for reading, I hope that we can all learn a bit from this. Myself included.
P.S. If you were wondering, we still lost the game, 11/13, but I did manage to go positive 16/13/7 at the end.
