I've seen a few posts similar to my problem on other forums, but no concrete solution for it yet. Below are my PC specs.
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 TI
CPU: Intel i7-12700KF @5GHz
RAM: T-FORCE 2x8 DDR5
Running on Windows 11
My system runs into an issue when I am in-game and ALT+Tab out to mess with something on my second monitor, both monitors will freeze with audio still being output. On one occasion, every window I had open (Chrome & Discord) froze except Valorant. I've tried playing in Fullscreen natural resolution and Fullscreen borderless (I used to play stretch-res with a 4:3 aspect ratio resolution, but ALT+Tabbing with that resolution was a mess), and neither prevent this issue, although I mostly play on Fullscreen borderless to seamlessly ALT+Tab.
Some users on other forums say "don't ALT+Tab then", but the issue is I also stream sometimes and often have to ALT+Tab to deal with things. Others say to update the GPU drivers, which I did, but still ran into the same problem.
I speculate it's a RAM issue with Chrome and Valorant (or even Vanguard) because that is when it happens mostly. I would say since my first interaction with this problem, my PC crashes when I ALT+Tab about 10% of the time. It crashes almost every day, and impacts my RR significantly with the recent AFK penalty changes.
I am almost open to anything that could resolve this issue, and with saying that, below are techniques I have already tried:
- Going to "C:\Riot Games\VALORANT\live\ShooterGame\Binaries\Win64\VALORANT-Win64-Shipping.exe", into Properties>Compatibility and checking "Disable fullscreen optimization"
- Disabling hardware acceleration on Chrome
- Running Valorant as Administrator
- Going to System>About>Device Specifications>Advanced System Settings>Advanced>Performance>Settings>Visual Effects and marking "Adjust for best performance" (I've just enabled this setting, will play through the weekend and try to discover any changes)
Any knowledge to this issue being on Valorant, Chrome, or even my system's RAM or GPU would be appreciated.
