Hi, Valorant devs and the Riot team.
I'm contacting you in order to initiate a serious and productive conversation on Valorant support on Linux (at least on major known distros like Ubuntu), a subject that is frequently raised but rarely discussed in detail.
More users, like me, are switching to Linux as their daily operating system as a result of Microsoft discontinuing support for Windows 10 on October 14, 2025 and Windows 11 coming under growing criticism for its strict hardware requirements and forced updates.
The ecosystem for Linux gaming has changed significantly:
- Many AAA titles may run with performance that is almost native thanks to Proton and Wine/DXVK.
- Linux-based gaming is becoming more and more popular because to Steam Deck.
- However, because to its platform limitations and kernel-level anti-cheat, Valorant is still only available on Windows.
Why This Is Important:
Your player base includes Linux users – not only for servers but also for desktop computers. Even if small.
Privacy, control, and performance are important to many developers, enthusiasts, and creators.
Adoption and innovation are stifled when dual-booting or Windows in a virtual machine are required.
An impediment to growth is the absence of Linux support.
We don't expect flawless cross-platform compatibility right away. However, we are requesting that Riot begin the journey. A few potential actions include:
Release a launcher that is Wine-compatible (even if it is labeled as experimental or unsupported).
Examine the dependencies that prevent Linux support from working.
DXVK/Vulkan rendering paths are supported.
Create a Linux testing channel, even if it's community-driven.
Engage the Linux community to assist with testing, debugging, and contributing.
Valorant is a high-quality competitive title with a passionate community. It deserves to be available to users regardless of OS — especially as Linux continues to grow.
Please consider this a sincere request to start laying the groundwork for Linux compatibility.
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.
