Hey! So I've watched the DrLupo interview on youtube with Anna Donlon and Joe Ziegler about Valorant. It's a great Q and A btw and well done. But at around the 33 min. mark they talk about penalizing leavers, quitters, or people disconnecting from the server, leaving a team abandoned, and what exactly they could do about that, and that they'd want feedback on that. I already commented this on the comments in the video, but decided itd be more constructive to post here. My thought is this:
(Might be an unpopular idea but... check it out) , if someone disconnects or leaves the match, there could be a notification that pops up for the ENEMY team, asking them if they would like to voluntarily have 1 player SPECTATE, not leave, but just basically "sit out" and spectate the rest of that match in order to balance out the teams. And that spectator can still communicate with their team but cannot fly around the map with free cam though. Also, if the team that volunteers to sit-out a player happens to still win, they get rewarded BONUS XP, (Or something of the sort) for showing great sportsmanship in deciding to "bench" a player and still winning the match. But also if they lose, however the ranking system works, it doesn't deduct AS much from their rating (like only 1 or 2 ratings off, depending on how the ratings system works) while the team with the leaver, does not get penalized for leaving if they choose so (obviously cause it isn't their fault their teammate was an ass) And this notification pops up for the enemy team for some allotted time like maybe 30-50 seconds to choose who they are going to sit out, and if no one chooses to sit out, then the team with the leaver gets the money from the leaver spread out between teammates (like he said in the interview) and/or give the team with the leaver, more options or choices (obviously not too many cause we don't wanna baby them BUT) for example give them the choice for the next few rounds if they want to switch to attack or defend, or give them 1 free Agent swap etc. Since the other team clearly has an advantage in numbers. I don't think some subtle choices like these can be all that bad. Chances are, even if you have more choices and options like these, the team with numbers advantage can still peek more corners than you and be in more places than you, and it only takes a second to get caught out in this type of game. So I think its pretty reasonable. Also, if the enemy team chooses to keep all players to try and take advantage of a "free win" situation, but they ultimately lose the match, then they get hit a tiny bit harder on their loss in ratings points, since they weren't trying to be good sports, but also still got smacked during the match. It's like a double whammy. lol What do y'all think? To the first or second part of this? lol
